It’s so exciting to connect with you! It feels great to be on the other side of my hiatus. In November, I took the month to focus on my health and self-care, which extended for another few months as I transitioned back home. Now, I’m in Hawaii with my mastermind group setting a new vision for our Black Women Rise movement.
One of the major lessons I learned and a new mantra that I developed during my reflective period is “Be of Service to Myself”
As Black women, we have been known to SERVE- our churches/faith organizations, our families, and our communities. Does this sound like you? The research shows that it’s mostly to our detriment as we have a higher prevalence of stress-related illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
I definitely have over-served causes and people at my expense. I even did this with my business until I recommitted to focusing on my core CEO tasks. My new mantra, “Be of Service to Myself,” is all about taking this strength of serving and allowing it to benefit me.
Therefore, I’m putting that same dedication, focus and grit that I’ve given to others to now creating a lifestyle based in self-care and fulfilling my purpose with Black Women Rise. I invite you to incorporate this mantra for yourself.
